After a game I saw the other week I think this is needed.
What is flanking?
Flanking is the ability for a team to attack another team from a vulnerable side forcing them to either fall back, make quick bad decisions resulting in there being shot or at the very least pinning them down.
How to exicute?
This isnt always easy. In fact some times It is very hard but very needed. This involves lots of comunication with your team as well. lets say we have the scenerio below.
.................................. D
...................................A A
The letter D represents a defensive player. A represents you the assaulter, with another team mate. in this snapshot no one has much of an advantage you could be shooting (wasting) paint all day like this. What to do?
............................... D
. .................................................................................A
......................................A
Notice here that The assulter on the right moved way over maybe even further away then they originally were to the defender. this helps in two ways. First it gives the defender to places to shoot instead of one. Second look at the angle that the A player on the right has now. Could be an easier shot.
So how did the player get a chance to get over there?
That is where comunication helps. let your team mate know what you are doing. tell them that you are going to make a run for a certain tree. when you do have your teammate fire on the defender even if he isnt hitting the defender it is usually enough to destract him long enough for you to get where you wanted to. (If under fire see section about shooting and moving).
OK now lets say that you were the defender in this instance. Well of course you are not going to let them just play out this scenerio on you while you sit and watch. So what to do?
Dont let them get the angle on you. Instead get the angle on them. How?
.................................. D
................................................................................ A
.................................. A
This is what just happend to you so you do this.
. D
..................................................................................... A
.........................................A
Just drop to the left of the screeen. How does this help? You move yourself far enough away that you take out the A player to the rights ability to even get a decent shot, or none at all. Now it is one on one. You now may also have a little bit of an angle on the other A player as well.
Litter advice. Practice these menuvers. If you are on defend and you notice the cover fire being shot at you and you know someone is moving into position as soon as they are done with the suppressing fire emediatly move. they wont expect you to react so quickly. Most rookies are to busy watching to see if there budy made it to there flanking position that you have time As a defender to flank them and even take them out before they even knew you had moved.
(had to use periods to keep the letters where i put them)
