Mark 14:58
And we hear Him (Jesus) say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will Build another made without hands.
Why is he going to destroy a temple?
What temple?
How do you make a temple without hands?
Why three days?

Hmm ... my initial thoughts on this:
We know that Jesus died, and then rose three days later (fortunately for us, we have that 20/20 hinesight(sp?)) by virtue of the gosple accounts. Historians tell us that the Jewish temple was destroyed in 70 AD, a little under 40 years after Jesus was crucified. We also know that Jesus offered a radically different perspective/answer to the typical lines of Jewish thought, and the problem of having a God that is forgiving of sin, and Just (I mean, how could God forgive humanity of their sin and also punish humanity for their sin? BOTH being necessary, and beautifully met in the person of Jesus -- we're forgiven because Jesus, who deserved no punishment, was punished for us).
Not so sure I even touched on the questions ... so ...
Why is he going to destroy a temple? Possibly to set up a different/more full temple.
What temple? The body, as a temple (John2:21)
how do you make a temple without hands? I think this is slightly confusing, mainly because in John Jesus just says that he will rebuild it again ... but it would have to be by God's power -- a completely unnatural event, not with human skill/etc.
why three? Prophesy? 3 is a good odd number? Not too sure ...

I feel that this is an example. One of the temple (old testament) where you needed to go to the temple and give an offering to the priest. And have them offer it to God. The old way the old covenant.
Now when he (Jesus) rebuilds the temple with out hands. I feel this means we can ask God directly to forgive us. With out offering sacrifice. The temple is Jesus. And the start of the new covenant.
The three days is the resurrection of Jesus. And birth of the Christian church.
Well let me know what you think – Rob
