Is it the Player with "Skill", or the Player with "the Gun" that makes a Player Victorious?
It's The Chicken or the Egg Debate, but with Skill vs the Gun. "If Only I had a better gun!" Youv'e heard it before ...
Does the type of gun make a player better on the field, or is it their true skill? I think it is the skill of the player that has better sucess on the fields. Skills are basic I know, but a "skilled player" uses their brains to complete their objective, and not just their gun. The fancier the gun just makes that task easier. On the other hand, if you are a scardy cat, the top of the line guns can turn you into Superman! You now have intimidation power when people see you with that Angel or Autococker (Timmy - whatever) - Giving you a false sense of security. It is easy to hide behind the gun, when you lack the skills really needed, and when things don't turn out just right, yes, blame it on the gun.
Twice I have been given someone's Angel to try, and I took out the other team. I was Superman! I was Invincible! I killed a whole side by myself (suprised myself too). I know that I could not have done that with the gun I had at the time. I'm no fool. I took more chances because I had an Angel. I would never try that stint with the 98 C that I had.
Don't get me wrong, I love to shoot up the field when the situation calls for it. But I know that spraying and praying is all luck. It uses up alot of paint (precious commodity) too.
So try to use your head instead of relying on your gun.

I think its alot more the player than the gun, come on if you dont have a player who can shoot the gun. ;D But some of it is the gun too because you cant play without a gun and youll do bad in a game with a gun that keeps messin up.

I think its the the gun (more specifically the BARREL). I have seen a lot of people that can play the game very well, but since their gun shoots EVER OTHER direction then where they aimed they can never hit anyone!

skill is probably about 75% of what makes someone good, as I see it.
When I play in the woods, the gun I use doesn't matter as much ... sneaking up on an opponent or suprising them as they fall into an ambush can be accomplished with any gun. However, when you run into fire fights, it's good to have a gun that is accurate. Rate of fire isn't as important, I dont think. So I think Shawn is right on about the barrel.
I'm a woodsball player at heart, but I do well in speedball because I play it agressively. My 3 bps gun takes out people because it is accurate. People tend to stay hidden behind their bunker long enough to advance whether you hit it with 3 bps or 20. (except lisa .. girl is rough)
point being -- skill is the foundation. Your gun only augments what is already there.

Good responses, My point is that the Quality of Player is more important than the Quality of the Gun.
I know of a guy, Shawn (Fun Gunz) who can defeat 3 or 4 players armed with Auto Guns (Cockers & Mags, Angels & Timmy's) in the woods using a Pump Gun. Actually there are a few more I beleive that can do this (Red Dragon has 2 more - I wish I were one, but someone has to suck). This is "Skill!" So when they play with advanced guns, they give the other team 3 additional player to HELP even up the sides. In fact when they split up teams, they choose players based on ability & experience rather than who has what gun to use.
It was embarrasing when Shawn took out 2 players with out a shot! He came up behind us and said "Your'e dead!"

Hey xolo,
Shawn now owns Fun Gunz. He used to be the field operator of Desert Storm (Fun Gunz's Outdoor Field). He is soooo busy, that he has cut back on his tournament play. His brother Lance was really skilled too!
The other players play at Red Dragon - 45 miles away on the East side in Brown County (Hammersville). They will be at the Bash on the 10th (ask our Paul) if you want to meet them (Bruce, Frank, Marty, & AJ). I don't see any of those people anymore since I found PBJ. I miss them, but I don't miss the drive ....

its defiantly the player i mean you have to move into a position to get a shot which takes a lot more thought and strategy than just to shoot at a target

Then why did no one pcik me when came in jeans and a t shirt the first time and sued a rental M 98. Then hte next week when i came in with my jersey glove pants and high end gun people thouhgt it was un-fair and wanted me on there team and was afraid of my gun..........
So i think that it does matter but it takes the combination of the right gun with the right type of player to achviece succes on the field.

Not one of those guns feature the automatic firing program or even a board the lets you switch to "automatic firing". And the only gun that have an "automatic firing" are cheap low-end guns. This is do to the APL ban one (auto-fring) int ourney guns in 1998. This is alos dues to you can pull it faster than any automatic firning mechanism could fire the marker.
And yes that is a great way to gain skill it teaches you to move to get the shot you want.

i have seen some really good players and shooters. In real life. but every dog has it's day. I like to hunt people down in paintball so I do get shot. My flatline is good and my R/T is nice but it does no good if you stomp thru the woods letting everyone know where your @. So I agree it the person 50% and the gun 50% . after all your useless with out one or the other. Firepower has it's place but if you can't hit what your aiming at what good is it...unless your providing covering fire. but that another story. - rob

The Player or the Gin. Hmmmmmmm. Well Im an assault player or a sniper. If I am assult I want a marker that is oing to let me get into the thick of it fast and control the situation. When I am sniping. The marker is always semi and built to complement my range. But the basic idea is the gun has to serve the player and the player does not serve the gun. 11-20 i took more chances in the first woodland mission than i would usually take with astock barrell tippman. But i used my othr skills of communication, movement, and target allocation control to maintain security and advance the push on the enemy. We saw it this weekend definatly. When someone comes in with a great advanced marker they become targets. The Sim 15 for one. The man knew his stuff but even a marker cant fire in three directions at once.
